The Bhagavad Gita is one of the great spiritual books of the world. It presents a universal philosophy that shows us how to live a life of purpose, action and happiness.

The introduction gave a summary of the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gita where the background to the story is told and the scene is set.

Arjuna the greatest warrior of the day is thrown into despair and frozen into indecision when he sees the battlelines drawn up with the two armies facing each other.

This week we delve further into Chapter 2, Topic 3, Your Duty to Act. This topic focuses on understanding your own innate vocation, and how you raise yourself beyond the distraction which impoverish your action. The topic define the function of your inner personality of the mind and intellect and their roles. Practical and systematic knowledge

promoting right action, beginning with subtle understandings offered in Vedanta, the philosophy of life and living.

We are following the edition of the Gita by A. Parthasarathy.

Our teacher

 The class will be led by Parulji who has been researching and studying the Gita for over 3 decades under the guidance of Swami Parthasarathy, the founder of the Vedanta Academy in India.  Her approach is to encourage questions and to welcome debate – all within a framework of openness and camaraderie.

All the classes take place at 8am - a time when the mind is clear and the working day has yet to begin.

The tradition in the teaching of the Gita is for the classes to be supported through donations.

In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seem puny and trivial.
